The Story Behind Our Packaging

The Story Behind Our Packaging

- JULY 2024 -

Kia Ora Superseed whānau,

If you're a Superseed lover, you probably know that flax, poppy and chia seeds are all staple ingredients in our crackers. But did you know that these seeds and flowers are also the inspiration behind the pretty illustrations on our packaging?

Our packaging reflects the natural ingredients we use and the seeds and the wholesome, healthy ethos we uphold in everything we do. Here's a little bit of backstory about some of the super-seeds we use:

Flax Seed Plant IllustrationThe Flax Seed Plant

The flax seed plant, with its beautiful blue flowers, is completely different to the NZ flax traditionally used for weaving.

Rather, this flax plant is used for its fibre - often to make linen yarn and fabric - while its little nutritious seeds are great for digestive health and lowering cholesterol

Chia seed plant illustrationThe Chia Seed Plant

Chia seeds (once valued so highly they were considered a form of currency by the Aztecs!), are known for their fresh, sweet flavour and high energy contents.

Packed with Omega-3 fatty acids, they support heart and brain health!

The Poppy Seed Plant

Poppy seeds have a rich history in kitchens around the world - they have been used in foods and for their oil for thousands of years.

Illustrated here is the dried poppy seed head, containing tiny, kidney-shaped seeds. It's said that they were valued by ancient civilisations for their calming properties!
