Pickled Red Onion

Perfect to make ahead of your next dinner party, or as a DIY gift for grandparents or hard-to-buy-for friends (along with a bag of our crackers of course)!

A delicious, colourful, crunchy and tangy addition to any cracker. Pairs especially well with cheese or avocado.

 Pickling Brine Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp whole pickling spices

Method: 

  1. Combine all of the above in a pot until sugar is dissolved and boil for 5 minutes.
  2. Thinly slice 2 large red onions into half rings.
  3. Add sliced onions to the pan of hot pickling liquid.
  4. Reheat until just boiling, then take off the heat.
  5. Leave for to cool for 30mins.
  6. Pack into hot jars and seal.
  7. Leave to cool.
  8. Ready within 24 hours to eat as your heart desires! Once opened, store in the fridge.

 Zero Waste Tip:

 Leftover liquid can be used as a delicious salad dressing! Just add some olive oil.
